The problem with MQA is that everything is downsampled to 96/17. There is only *one* fold, regardless of their marketing claims. All audio information above 48kHz is discarded, only to be replaced with aliasing artifacts - that MQA calls "upward rendering". And the loss in resolution to 17 bits is easily audible on many tracks - much harder on others.
MQA is nothing more than a bunch of 20 and 30 year old technology wrapped up in new marketing buzzwords. The only reason people "like" it is because MQA is very careful to only compare it against either lesser formats (or very rarely) against lesser digital filters.
The scary part is that it sneaks in DRM, that once in place can be used for not-so-nice things down the road. So far all they are doing is forcing you to buy new playback hardware. It is possible for them to do much, much worse things than that with their technology. And they are clearly planning on doing so - just look at the patent applications they have in.
