Well, actually I don't have a CDP. If I want to play a CD on my audio system, I use the PC CDROM and let J. River do the playback. And my audio is on a separate circuit.
Actually, my PC is connected to my audio system via 10m toslink. Not an electrical connection. However, as has been pointed out, an electrical connection such as digital coax can be used and be galvanically isolated from the audio system.
There is more to worry about than just the HD noise on a PC. There are fans, and the generally accepted electrically noisy environment of the PC. Plus I use a 19" CRT monitor.
My views on the use of wireless / USB / firewire were discussed earlier in the thread. Admittedly, that is the most controversial of my own personal preferences list. And I do realize many people are using those methods successfully.
