---Locating the PC in the listening room.
My main audio PC is right where my system is. No problem as long as you have built a quiet PC, which I have, using fanless PS and Scythe quiet fan, etc.
---Having my PC equipment and my stereo equipment on the same AC circuit.
Once again, my PC is on the same circuit but on separate power conditioner line. No problem at all.
---Electrically coupling the audio system to the PC.
I assume you're talking about PC ground noise. Once again, no problem piping spdif from PC(Lynx card) to outboard DAC with coax as there are digital transformers between them.
---Using lossy formats for the music library.
Agreed. However, I have now accumulated some lossy files that are not available lossless, and the better of them sound pretty darn good.
---Using an internal HD as the playback source.
Internal HD is the most trouble-free way of doing this as opposed to USB or firewire external HD, which either get too hot or too noisy due to fans.
---Using the PC analog outputs or inputs.
When I used to use Lynx card's analogue outputs, I had no problems at all.
---Running anti-virus software.
I use AVG. No problems whatsoever.
