Yep, pretty much what I've seen and heard, except for #10 and #11.
#10 - probably because of age and condition, i.e. very small chance of surviving operation.
#11 - second opinions are no problem. Still doesn't mean you're going to get timely treatment - see #2.
Of course, if you have the money, you can travel to the US to get the treatment promptly. No big deal. BUT, what will we do if the US health system is no longer free enterprise? Right now we have the best of both sides.
Personally, the big problem I see with the US system is for middle income people. There is a safety net for low incomers, the high incomers have no trouble paying, but the middle incomers can't easily afford to pay for treatment or full insurance coverage, although they pay their share of taxes for those that are taken care of by Gov't. That's what needs to be fixed.
Whatever you do down there, I'd hope you'd find a better solution that what we have in Canada, and I also hope we can make some sensible changes here. In both countries, let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater, which is probably not very likely to happen with so many hair-brained ideologues on both sides of the political fence.
The greatest challenges to effective health care will always be found in the nefarious behaviour of politicians, health corporations and beaurocrats.
