I define evil as the lack of empathy that gives a person the ability to do consistent, unnecessary harm to others, especially when they understand that their actions are harmful. To me it's not a religious concept, though it is a moral concept. As a result, I don't define any of the actions of non-sapient creatures (human or animal) or the operation of natural forces as evil.
Sin is a purely religious idea.
