I think the loosening of abortion laws was a good thing, yes. I don't see it as "giving unborn children a death sentence", but that may be because I don't share your religious convictions. There is a divide on this issue that will probably never be healed in a pluralistic society.
I don't want or need everything in my moral universe to be black or white. I'm satisfied if we're taking all sides of the issues into consideration and seem to be doing the best we can under the circumstances. I tend to value freedom more than constraint, probably because I believe that people are by and large moral beings.
