I rowed crew for awhile. Lots of time on the ergos, 9 mile runs, and of course time in the shells out on the water. It was fun, in a sort of masochistic way, but we were in great shape. Physical fitness is one of the legacies from my time at Navy. Exercise was and remains an important part of my daily routine.
One of the other legacies was a world view. I was fortunate to travel around the world before I was 30. There will always be shrill voices of extremism, whether visiting Papua New Guinea and China, or right here at home. You can't expect much in the way of constructive exchange of ideas with the "fruity pebbles" people. Know what I mean?
You must be proud of your dad for his service.
