No, not a tourist to Annapolis. I'm an alum. And, sure, I'll apologize if wrong. In this case however, the situation is self-evident. There are enough extraordinary instances of senior military leaders speaking out in dissent post-retirement to merit a national discussion on policy. As JohnEH likes to say, the troops on the ground are most immediately affected by policy, so this hits close to home. I have friends there.
The situation is especially disheartening. I do love this country. Watching Bush use patriotism as a tool to squelch dissent and informed debate (very effectively, and very un-patriotic!) is about as American as China, Russia, Iran, etc.
In the past the GOP championed fiscal responsibility, libertarian freedoms, secularlism, personal responsibility, while maintaining a safety net for those less able. These issues align with my personal values. Unfortunately, the party abandoned this platform for... what?
Enjoy your wine. I prefer Malbecs and rich blends. Living in the Northwest, I also like my micro brews. And Macallan 18 year single malt.
