There are a number of definitions. I have different levels of belief in each:1: the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life
NO2: the spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe
NO3: a person's total self
NO4 a: an active or essential part
YESb: a moving spirit : leader
YES5 a: the moral and emotional nature of human beings
MAYBE, but more a a linguistic construct than an an actual "thing"b: the quality that arouses emotion and sentiment
YESc: spiritual or moral force : fervor
MAYBE6: person
YES, but it's just a linguistic usage.7: personification
YES, but again it's just linguistic8: a strong positive feeling (as of intense sensitivity and emotional fervor) conveyed especially by black American performers
YES
