They don't do squat to address the emissions from vehicles, or to buttress our civilization against oil depletion, though. Since most oil is used for transportation, having lots of electricity won't help in that sector, at least until battery technology takes its next jump.I'm in violent disagreement with SWMBO over nuclear power. I'm in favour of it (at least from a technical perspective, the human and economic factors are another story) while she takes the standard Greenpeace line that the waste is going to kill us all. No amount of pointing to the amazing safety record of the nuclear industry and the lack of related deaths since Chernobyl cuts any ice with her...
