Republicans lost partly because they behaved like the bad old Dems

- Irresponsible fiscal policy (deficit spending - I have no problem with tax cuts if accompanied by corresponding reduction in spending)
- Interventionist foreign policy (remember is was the bad old Dems uder JFK who put usin Vietnam
- Expanding federal government (think 1970s dems)
- Intrusive government into private lives (I guess this falls under the influence of the Religious Right - the base of the old Dems)

Republican and Democrat are just labels. With a moral compass, you could navigate beyond the party talking points.
