The pain of saying goodbye to nice stuff,..

phil jeffery,

Yes, I thought I'd brought the Holdsworth up before. I don't know, the old ones with the straight tubular frames to me seem perkier- they look fast sitting still- than the carbon fibre molded ones. By the way, this was only my 4th,and as it turned out-final bike.

One of the problems I have in selling certain things is that they are too fantastic to look at. Some objects are by quality of materials, design, and craftsmanship worthy of plain contemplation- and are therefore difficult to part with. Consequently, I have almost all the audio stuff I ever purchased, a good number of old watches, and the Holdsworth.

High quality bicycles like other high performance gear are a special joy- they're about the largest items outside watches and the space programme that seem so beautifully made.

I'd love to keep the Holdsworth and putter round the corner now and again, but that- and an MR77 and Scott 330 tuners, many NOS tubes, film photography stuff- need a Mamiya 330P 2-1/4 twin lens reflex, a 1958 Nikon F bellows? That and Jaguar XK140, Mercedes 6.3, Morris Minor, Volvo 122S, and 1928 Packard parts, 4- DCOE40's, and a 1' stack of car manuals all need to move on. Probably the harpsichord and clavichord too Besides the cash and space advantages, the Holdsworth, for example, has been moved to a new address 14 times in two countries since I last rode it.

Still, as little as I rode it, I'm sorry to see it go. Even the 1932 Packard V-12 engine fan is worthy of hanging on display,..

Cheers,

Bambi B
