Here's my list of the 29 I can remember since my first purchase (1974)

Dr. D.,

Cars owned since 1974, in order of car year:

The subject line says 29 cars, but there are actually 30:

1928 Packard 443 Dietrich convertible coupe (only 50 made)

1936 Packard Eight coupe

1937 Riley 12/4- my second car

1952 Bentley Mk VI > my first car, purchased in 1974 for £450- about
$1,000 then

1952 Morris Minor coupe (split windscreen, sidevalve)

1954 Mercedes-Benz 190SL- this was the 92nd 190SL made

1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

1955 Cadillac Coupe de Ville > 80,000 miles my everday car for three years in the mid 80's. The original owner was Murray Cutter, who did film scores with Max Steiner

1957 Jaguar XK140MC roadster > See photo at top. I had this car for 22 years, sold 2003

1957 Morris Minor convertible > one of my favourite cars

1957 Nash Metropolitan (I called this the "Potato Car")

1959 Morris Minor coupe

1961 Morris Minor Coupe

1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

1962 Volvo 122S sedan

1963 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

1965 Volvo 122S station wagon

1966 Volvo 122S coupe

1968 Volvo 122S coupe

1969 Volkswagen Beetle - my first car in California

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

1970 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 litre- my "muscle" sedan- 300HP, air suspension, 145MPH. Phil Hill made these famous

1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 litre

1974 Fiat 124 TC DOHC sedan- the little boxy 124 sedan with the 124 Spider engine- like an Italian Mini Cooper. My only Italian car and the only car I gave away,..

1978 Cadillac Seville- I thought this was the best looking American car of the 1970's- actually that's an easy award to make- was fuel injected and handled well. Two weeks after I spent $1,400 on repairs, it was totalled in a 7- car accident with injuries on the 405 N transition to the 101N in Los Angeles. - I have three friends that had accidents in that same spot. The whole right side was opened as by a tin opener- you could see through the side of the car, but I only changed the right front tyre and was the only vehicle to drive home.

1981 Mercury Zephyr sedan- the last straight six Ford

1993 Chevrolet "Lumina" minivan. I thought I was going to be building a house

1994 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 coupe: A surprisingly good-handling, reliable car that got 30MPG on trips, and with fantastic air conditioning that I though I'd use for 2-3 years but drove for 8

1994 Lincoln MK VIII: Photo at top- A surprisingly good coupe- I call it my "Recession BMW 645" with a 296HP DOHC Mustang Cobra engine. This just turned 60,000 miles and is my current everyday 15MPG car,..

Best value on a car: I bought the 1981 Mercury Zephyr with every option with 38,000 miles for $2,200 in 1984. It was hit twice and I collected $2,750 and still sold it for $950, so I i.e. made $1,450. The XK140 was sold for 5 times it's purchase price after 22 years. The Nash Metropolitan cost $200, I fixed the brakes and sold it for $600- a 3X profit! The greatest loss in value was the Chevrolet minivan, I had over $2,000 in it and sold it for $500 when It could pass CA smog.

I 'm sure I've forgotten 2 or 3

Greatest missed purchases:

1949 Cadillac Series 62 convertible, restored, $6,000. I think the 1949 Cadillac was one of the great American cars ever- the third fastest production car in 1949 -and 20MPG. The one I considered had the quietest, smoothest engine of any car I've ever seen- you could balance a dime on the running engine.

1952 Jaguar C-Type racing car, complete and in buckets, in Texas, for $12,000

1964 Bentley Mulliner Park Ward "Flying Spur" in beautiful condition for $13,000

1952 Bentley MK VI with Park Ward 2-door coupe body (only 6 made), fully restored $24,000

-and the most serious missed opportunity in my lifetime:

1964 Ferrari "Lusso"- in my view the most beautiful Ferrari ever- only 50 made, $41,000 in 1987. In 1989, this car after complete restoration sold for $550,000.

Dream car with an unlimited budget: Aston-Martin DB9
Semi-realistic dream car: 2003 Jaguar XK8 coupe

Cheers,

Bambi B
