Yes, the first TT had a couple of criticisms- as you say it could make tricks on the driver at the limit- understeer and everyone I know that drove one disliked the sensation of sitting low in a tall bathtub!
As for Audi vs. Aston engineering, as the "VW Tochter", Audi has wide resources, and probably can afford more R&D, but the Aston is just so damnably gorgeous.
I have never had a BMW (I had a lot of Mercedes) but drove my ex-fiance's 840 often, loved the Z8 and when they are reasonably priced- which may be never- I'd like a dark blue one please. My attorney "Bruiser" recently bought a 335i sedan and for a four door car I really fell for it- does everything very, very well- fantastic engine. A client has an M3 coupe and prefers it to his ex-Porsche 997.
