"Sie können nie jedermanns Liebling sein"- aber,..

Patrick,

The Audi TT was quite a hot model when it first appeared and I see more Audis in Los Angeles every day. A year ago or so ago when they were first available I drove a manual shift S5 4.2 coupe- I think that's the same base engine as R8 and Lambo Gallardo- and er sehr eindrucksvoll war!

The Porsche/Audi dealer near my house keeps an R8 in the forecourt- as a temptation. Und, vollstandig erstaunlich, but with a sting: a $20,000 above sticker premium . They shouldn't do this as it makes the Porsches- which seem to all look alike- (998, Boxster, GT3, and Cayenne use the same headlamp and front end design) seem old-fashioned.

However, as the article says, "Sie können nie jedermanns Liebling sein" and here at least Audi's here still have two negatives by reputation- they are quite heavy cars and have reliability problems. A friend had a 2000 A4 station wagon and I thought it was underpowered with the 1.8 turbo and in the three years, it was in the shop 6 or 7 times.

Still, very nice designs, excellent engineering- except for the weight, and I'd rather have an R8 than a Ferrari 430. The R8 can be driven as an everyday car and won't need an engine rebuild at 40,000 miles. Still, I'd also rather have an Aston Martin DB9 than an R8, but I'm an automotive traditionalist.

Cheers,

Bambi B
