I remember all the interaction of neighbors in my home town and while staying with my grandparents as a youth. It was common for neighborhood parties and celebrating each other's birthdays, etc. My granddad would set up a 8 mm projector and screen in the driveway and show cartoons to all the neighbor kids and serve them Ice cream several nights each summer. At some point cocooning began and progressed.
