Is relatively low gain an issue for the Atma-Sphere design?
I realize most (Tube, are there any other?)preamps have more voltage gain than needed for the average amp. But it would seem that with such a low gm tube as a 6SN7, the amp's gain would be marginal.?.?
The "Old" schematics I have of the device show switchable feedback (which would again reduce gain) and the 6SN7 operating at quite low voltage and current. Wouldn't there be an advntage, gm wise, to getting the tube to run at substantial current and as low voltage as reasonable (maintaining linearity)?
Has the hated/loved 6922 been tried?
I also wondered about either a ring of two bipolar current source for the differential amp, or a FET current source. Should be more effective than a 6SN7 and any noise would be common mode, so no ill effect, right?
Just wondering.
