You may be on to something. I just removed the current sources from the cathodes of the drivers. They were set at 6mA. I now am operating the tube with just a 22k resistor in each cathode for about 10mA. The treble is much improved. I guess the 6550 in triode mode is harder to drive (Miller?) than I thought. I'll need to find a tube with adequate B+ capacity though, since B+ is 390V and the grid is direct coupled to the cascode plate at 180V. I think the ECC99 was 150V max. I'll check the 5687. Thanks.
