Came across a performance by Mariam of Liszt's "La Campanella" on YouTube.... 95 percent of the performances of this work I don't much care for..... Mariam's happens to be in the other five percent.Mariam was able to sustain the melodic line throughout the work, avoiding the piece to transform into a jumble of notes..... Which is to me a stunning achievement for this particular piece. A lot of famous pianists (Evgeny Kissin for one) fail to come close. Not quite the horsepower or articulation of the best I've heard (Kazune Shimizu), but for a young competition performer, off the charts.
