Brilliant performance last night:
Schubert Sonata No. 14 in A-minor, D.784
lovely perf
Franck Prelude, Chorale and Fugue, Op. 21
I didn't know this well; very compelling
Hough Sonata III
Also compelling, if deliberately ugly for long stretches. Curious that he needed the score only for this piece, which he wrote.
Liszt Valses oubliées No 1 & 2
Maybe the best perf of these I've heard.
Liszt Transcendental Études No. 10 & 11
Hough's astounding technique lets him focus on the music, which is rare. I had never heard these live; fireworks via keyboard, truly overwhelming.
encore: Chopin Nocturne in E-flat minor, Op. 9 No. 2
The most delicate interpretation of this I've heard. It seemed everyone in the house held their breath. At least I did.
Not bad for music.
