Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

RE: Intro to Music Theory

Here you go:

Idiot's Guide to Music Theory - actually a good place to start.

Charles Rosen's books (more analysis of works rather than theory)
The Classical Style: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven
The Romantic Generation (post Beethoven through Chopin)

Harmony, by Walter Piston - complete, in-depth, and readable

Paul Hindemith's texts - cover theory and practice of music composition

The Berklee College of Music books - I can't find any on my shelves right now, but they have a series of very readable texts on theory and composition.

Cheers,
WW
