I missed this post, sorry. Too busy.
Des Knaben Wunderhorn, still had some cool conducting and desires for the brass. I have the EMI/Odeon and Angel pressings.
Dvorak Cello w Rostropovich is on YT, and on my cassette. Very good orchestral playing. May 1969.
Richard Strauss on Sony SACD and LP are great, especially Don Juan and sarcastic Till.
Did someone mention Rachmaninoff Var on theme of Paganini with Fleisher on excellent Epic mono?
I agree with those who love his Brahms, esp Sym 1 and the Russian double conc and the Overtures.
Curzon/Szell LSO on Decca--for the ages, although there are several other incredible ones.
Agree with many other comments.
Szell complained that his orchestra did not sound rich vs Karajan's BPO but he is the one who tried to control things. Again, my live vs recording comment applies. Just listen to Szell rehearsing the Clevelanders with Beethoven 5!!! on YT, I own the VCR.
I will get back with you guys later.
