I really enjoyed our visit to Irvine Meadows (formerly Verizon) Amphitheater this past Sat.
The pieces have been played by our youth or high school orchestras, big standard rep. So my kid and her friend and other friend asked if we wanted to go, and we said Yes. I am a bit proud they wanted to go on their own.
Pacific conducted by Guiterrez (his swan song) played crisply and together, with verve and expression. R Chen was powerful and even wonderful, and Concertmaster Raymond Kobler's work in Scheherazade was outstanding.
