To me, he seemed to be pretty good, and all the banter from the friends here show that legends and recall sometimes rule.
Masur, going back to recordings of the past, was a great conductor. He played Tchaikovsky and the Central European music with authority, aside from the German classics. IMO.

The Brahms sounded good (from England), but a bit tight vested for my taste.
