That was when the great Cleveland Orchestra was still intact.... It was performed the season after graduating Case Western Reserve Univ., so I missed it..... );
The Orchestra and Dohnanyi recorded the Mahler One at that time, it was a one of the best played, but Dohnanyi's read didn't quite have the depth of the a Bruno Walter or Klaus Tennstedt. Tennstedt's recording with Chicago may be the best overall, in regard to both the read and orchestra performing it.
