Admittedly stiff in the studio, sometimes Szell's engineers did a great job.
Try Harry Janos or Brahms Academic Festival etc. I am listening to Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream and Smetana Moldau in the car, and sound is pretty good. Lots of detail, incredible playing and smoother and slower tempi than I often mentally remember.
The Beethoven piano conc w Fleisher and symphonies have a particular sound, not completely natural at times, but are a very good listen even sonically.
