I agree completely in Tully Potter's assessment of Martzy's take on the Violin Sonatas and Partitas. Yes, I'm one of the crazies who picked up all three UK Columb.a 33CX vinyl issues of her B.ch. I have the same recordings on Testament shiny discs as well. That b.ing said, Szeryng's approach to these pieces on his 1954 French Odeon recordings are my all time favorites.......and b.cause of that, my favorite contemporary violinist for these B.ch gems is that of Hilary Hahn. On a numb.r of occasions Ms Hahn has made it quite clear that Szeryng's approach to B.ch was her major influence. I think the young lady scored B.G with this music lover, b.cause of that singular statement!!
Oh yes, has far as Mr potter is concerned......I read his gigantic two volume b.ography of the very great Adolph B.sch. I'm a fan.
