Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Interesting, but.....
Then tabulate the results to determine the "greatest composers" based on the actual physiological effects of the music on people. We already know that music increases dopamine levels, that it causes involuntary physical responses (from toe tapping to spastic dancing to air guitar and faux conducting to relaxation to snoring). Which composers succeeded at writing music that provides the most discernible physiological effects?
Amphissa, your suggested research project is interesting, but it will still boil down to fundamental subjective decisions on which discernible physiological effects are more indicative of musical greatness. Does the dopamine level have greater value than the oxytocin level or the level of any other neurotransmitter? Is the toe tapping response more indicative of greatness than the relaxation response? And you still can't escape individual preferences. For example, in the evening an insomniac may prefer the snoring response to the toe tapping one:-)
