Indeed, it's not just the late symphonies are great. Try the Piano Trio in A minor "In Memory of a Great Artist"), Op. 50, the String Sextet in D major, Op. 70 "Souvenir de Florence", the Symphonic Fantasy for Orchestra in E minor, Op. 32 "Francesca a Rimini", and of course, the Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor, Op. 23 -- not to mention his operas. Tchaikovsky didn't quite make my list of 10, but that's probably only because I've been on an Atterburg kick lately. I listen to Tchaikovsky quite a lot.
