RE: I Think These Are My Top 10

Trust me – I thimk [sic] I completely understand what you're saying about the atonalists.

The Ligeti works that I enjoy exist in a space outside tonality/atonality considerations. For example, “Atmospheres,” “… opens with what must be one of the largest cluster chords ever written — every note in the chromatic scale over a range of five octaves is played at once. Out of the fifty-six string players ushering in the first chord, no two play the same note. The piece seems to grow out of this initial massive, but very quiet, chord, with the textures always changing.” [Wikipedia].

It is more about texture and time than it is about melody, harmony, or rhythm. And it takes me to a place that seems very real in a time-space sense. I don't care about melodic or harmonic resolution when I'm listening to this piece.

And, on the other hand, I really understand if it drives you (or anyone else) bonkers.
