I agree in the sense that I do listen to an awful lot of forgotten, unsung, ignored, obscure composers. I really like listening to their music. And some of them I like a lot -- York Bowen, Raff, Rufinatscha, Bortkiewicz, Martucci, Karlowicz, Tubin, etc.
But as far as maxing out my listening pleasure meter, the ones on my list always do it for me. Myaskovsky and Atterburg both made my list, and knocked off more mainstream composers like Strauss.
I love the solo cello suyites by Bach, have a gazillion recordings, and the pieces rock my ears. Same with Gliere's 3rd. I love Taneyev's chamber music. But composers on my list wrote lots of stuff that does it for me. I don't really care about any other music by Bach or by Gliere.
Who are some of those obscure composers who you think wrote music that you find as enjoyable, worth listening to over and over?
