Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

You may stream the Dudamel Inaugural concert through KUSC.org until Oct. 15th

Chris From Lafayette,

Yes, even the 60-something teeny boppers are joining the 20's through 50's teeny boppers in the Dudamania Spectacular.

As the concert was sold out, KUSC 91.5FM Los Angeles -as is done for a sold out baseball game, the blackout is magically lifted and KUSC will be streaming the Dudamel Inaugural opening concert of until October 15,2009. See link to podcast at bottom.

And my sincere thanks to KUSC, for throwing the listeners a bone out of the $4,000,000 or whatever it is the public sends you every year to listen to Lexus and happy cancer clinic advertising and cute plays on a word to announce the temperature in 35 places that have that word in their name.

I haven't heard this yet either, but so far, reports have been over several local Moons, and the concert broadcast I heard a few months ago featuring "Symphonie Fantastique" was very encouraging. But, Dudamania is one of those conductors where you have to be there and get caught up in the delerium. - This will be easy as you will already be weak from paying for the ticket.

What a relief after over 72 years of the smart and competent but lackluster Esa-Pekka! I never thought E-PS had any of the necessary fire in the belly great conductors need- they have to be prima donna / dictators /schoolmasters and make exaggerated gestures like the "Lenny Hop" -or remain so absolutely still and apparently asleep. Esa-Pekka seemed asleep while awake and could never strike satisfactory fear into the L.A. Phil- too nice a guy and looks to be a 23 year old surfer. - I'll bet he even tried to "make friends" with the orchestra- and never slept with anyone- fatal error! He's going off to compose, like Bernstein not satisfied only in realizing others' music. I heard a big piece of his, "Insomnia" and though I've suffered from that condition for many years, it brought on the soundest nap I had in a long while! Heavily influenced by the music to something starring Denzel Washington. Still, best of luck in his retirement- E-PS certainly can afford a reasonably comfortable one- his salary was $1,260,639 per year.

What I've seen of Dudamania is that there is plenty of podiastic Jacksonian Moon-walking and from what I've heard broadcast, the fire in the belly too. Loves dramatic contrasts, complex rhythms, and bringing out previously obscured solo parts.

With the spectacular Ring Cycle that's going on- I'm planning to play the hero and bear up to the whole 17 hours in a two week period in the Spring. With Dudamania up and running, Los Angeles may get something to cheer us through the Depression.

- Sayin'- Dudamania gonna rip some phat tunes, m' main Caucasian!

Cheers,

Bambi B
