Mike K,
It's natural to compare Gould to jazz musicians in that Gould had such a personal style, that amazing control and above all- a jazzy, complex sense of rhythm.
And to confirm the jazz connection, there's a Glenn Gould Prize and the third winner (1993) was fellow Canadian ivory tickler Oscar Peterson. And Oscar Peterson- master of the Million Note March- seems a great fit!
The driving treatment Gould gives to fugues and Prokofiev certainly sometimes provides jazz qualities- synchopations and I wondered if Gould would have liked to try jazz. However, jazz is social and spontaneous- the opposite of typical Gouldian attributes,..
Cheers,
Bambi B
