I should just admit that Bruckner is not my favorite composer. Far too often, he goes on at far too much length, with minimal variations of rather meager melodic materials--IMO, of course. What many hear as grandeur and heavenly length often strikes me as merely repetitive and tedious. I don't really have a problem with Jochum's decision to use edited versions, up the tempo, and play the contrasts for all they're worth.
