I like your idea of a "Conan the Barbarian" cantata as a "Carmina Burana" substitute. Distraction, popularisation through well-established formulae, and substitution- the old bait and switch is proven so effective by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
And, if someone would could compose an Oratorio on the theme of "Our Man Flint" as a replacement for "Bolero" and a Passacaglia and Fugue/Operetta on "The Beverly Hillbillies" to one and for all delete "Pachebel's Canon in D" from the repetoire, we may end our fear of turning on our FM tuners.
Now that Labor Day has passed, almost immediately we are going to need special protection from Christmas music.
