RBNG,
I apologize if you found my comments rude, that was not my intention.
But, your response does beg the question of why you asked the question. When I attempted to constitute a considered response to your question, your focus was not on the content, but on defending yourself against a perceived criticism of your behaviour. This, and your comments to the opera lecturer is odd behaviour towards people who only wish to expand your enjoyment of an important art form that millions of people over three centuries have enjoyed and that for some have virtually lived and died.
In your original post, you essentially asked, "Why do some people like opera so much?". Similarly to your responses elsewhere concerning audio wires and "golden eared" audiophiles, your mind seems to be intractably made up in advance such that no new information or opinion is allowed to enter that may be contrary or modify your predispositions. It appears to me that when anyone tries to describe their perceptions and explain the nature of their attraction to these things, if it disagrees with your opinion you are completely dismissive- shut them off, and as you seem to delight in saying to so many here, "ignore the rest,..".
You might ask yourself a question as to what benefit you hope from asking questions and then challenging, denying, and diverting any response that doesn't correspond with pre-determined views.
In my view, a person employing a consistently closed approach will find a less challenged, more comfortable existence by discontinuing to make the pretense of asking questions, as well as decrease wasting the time of others who, for their efforts, have to also receive paradoxically detailed declarations of being ignored.
Cheers,
Bambi B
