RE: Walter, Reiner, and Monteux

I listed them together only because I feel both recordings, while very good, are on the next level below my favorites. Of course Walter's and Reiner's performances - of anything - were always far apart in style. And yes, I also find Reiner's 7th (and 5th) are much better than the 6th. I don't recall hearing his 9th: I'll have to look for it.

I also like most of Monteux's other Beethoven but, unfortunately, the sound of the CD re-masterings are unlistenable for me on all but the 6th.

As I've accumulated and repeatedly listened to multiple performances of Beethoven's Symphonies, I've become less tolerant of the non-stellar recordings and started giving them away.
