Re: Best labels for classical recordings?

Although I generally prefer Conductors and performances from the 50's-60's (so I'mm always on the lookout for remastered versions from Columbia-Sony, RCA, Mercury, & VOX)

I do agree with the BIS label, not only for Vanska's Beethoven but also Hughes/Holmboe.
Chandos & EMI also do a very good job with more current recordings, as do Telarc & Naxos.

The Beethoven that comes to mind based on your request is a a DG remaster of Carlos Kleiber w/ Wiener Philharmoniker doing the 5th & 7th.
