Well, if you are a fan of recording technology, then the one album I'd put on top of your "test" list is Street Hassle. Known as his "Godfather of Punk" album, he took some songs from the German stretch of his '78 tour and melded them with off the wall studio editing and Binaural Recording. Very strange for the listener not too familiar with Lou, but pretty rewarding if you have an open mind.Bruce Springsteen even has an uncredited cameo spoken-word verse in the title track!
Another LP you might want to check out is Berlin, which I find to be my all-time fave LP. PERIOD. Jack Bruce is absolutely PHENOMENAL, and his bass is very prominent throughout the album. With a decent system you can pick up on a few little flaws, like backup singers whispering or a guitarist accidentally tapping a guitar string during another musician's "solo." The title track is clipped on the LP and CD issues, but if you can dig up an 8-track, there is a very creepy organ that makes the track worth listening to.
