Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: My feelings, exactly

I'm not sure what you're getting at, as I never said that high priced recordings are necessarily more musically valuable; I in fact said the opposite--musical value is obviously in the ear of the beholder. And if you want to rattle off a list of worthwhile recordings that don't cost much, I'm sure I can more than match you as I have a collection of around 8000 CDs, much of it obscure titles that I got real cheap, as well as a pretty large CD-R collection of classical radio broadcasts that cost me nada. And when you're listing composers and/or their works in an attempt to make your point, you'd better be more specific as to who the performers are, as most (but not all) of the very cheap recordings of the core repertoire ARE musically worthless. I was simply refuting the original posters point that JVC is a bunch of thieves because they don't match Audio Fidelity's pricing with their XRCD series. The point is simple--they can't. The only reason they got the license in the first place is because they are strictly producing premium priced editions that won't compete with the original label's standard editions. Obviously the content owners of the Audio Fidelity material don't care--I'm not even sure those albums were previously in print, at least in the way that Audio Fidelity is arranging them. Is that so hard to understand?

P.S. The Jelly Roll Morton example isn't germane to this discussion; that material is in the public domain and doesn't cost anything to license, which certainly contributes to it being available at such a low price.
