In Reply to: You are missing a bigger point, some of us love Buddy Rich, Cal Tjader & Mel Torme and would have posted by Teresa on January 26, 2003 at 12:14:11:
if you are tellig me that you would have given a second thought to any of those had they not been SACD releases on AF, or that in your most remote thoughts you were hoping for reissues of any of these titles, you are simply dishonest. They aren't even on anyone's radar, except now that they are on Hoffman SACD's.So what that "Buddy Rich Big Band: The Best Band I ever Had is from the Analog back-up tapes from the original "Century" Direct To Disc recordings."? Does that make it good? Am I supposed to be blown away?
"But Buddy Rich is considered to be the best Jazz Drummer of all time"
This is INCREDIBLE. By whom does Buddy Rich, a showman if there ever was one, come by such a title? You mean he is considered greater than Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Rashied Ali, Roy Haynes, Philly Joe Jones, Tony Williams, Billy Higgins, Al Foster, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Cobham, and about a hundred others? What a stupid statement.
Think again Teresa, in your wild rush to buy any SACD out there, you are another person mistaking sound for great music.
If you think Buddy Rich is the greatest jazz drummer ever, I feel very sorry for you.
