He drops the tempo slightly and maintains more of brisk strolling stride rather than the usual galloping tempo. But then I think Klemperer gives a better scale, dignity and real presense to this epic score.
I usually like Toscanini's Wagner for his *tension management* but then I can't quite shake off 'kill the wubbit' circling around in my head.
