Of course, that's not quite the bleeding chunk Ride as we're used to it - he's got actual Valkyries singing in his performance! I never understood the reverence for the Szell Wagner recording - it's so poorly recorded in comparison, and for my money, the performance is up-tight. For that matter, the Stokowski Phase-4 recording (orchestral only) is no great shakes for sonics either.

The Leinsdorf/LA recording on Sheffield is good from a coherency point of view (minimally microphoned!) - very clean and clear, even gleaming in its realism - although just a bit dry.

There are a number of excellent hi-rez recordings of Die Walküre (Mehta on Blu-Ray, Mehta on DVD-Audio, the new Gergiev/Mariinsky SACD, and others), but those are complete operas and not really the bleeding chunk you're looking for. Perhaps a good modern hi-rez compromise is:

Killer sound quality, and the performance is great too - but, again, it's not "Ride of the Valkyries" as most listeners know it.
