Years ago I bought an album from the Louisiana Folklore Society, after reading a review in the NY Times. I may have the only copy in NJ, but they put out some new stuff on CD last year. What makes them unique is their line-up: Hezekiah Early on drumkit, harmonica and lead vocals; Peewee Whittington (who I hope is still alive; he was in his 80's when the album was made) on trombone, which is the lead instrument here, and vocals; and (sorry, I can't recall the name right now) playing only the bottom strings of a six-string electric guitar on bass runs. No lead or rhythm guitar from this guy.
That's it. A trio right out of the juke joints and parties of rural Louisiana. The music is derived from blues and New Orleans jazz, but is truly unique. And undeservedly obscure. Just a hoot!
