I was not impressed. I got rid of the recordings fairly quickly. You see, I am very picky about Brahms. He's might favorite composer. I go through lots and lots of recordings. I seem to have an inner sense of the way I like these symphonies played that's fairly consistent. In the wrong hands, Brahm's symphonies can take on a leaden quality, like they are collapsing under their own weight, but in the right hands the symphonies have lift and buoyancy. They soar. Kurt Sanderling has that touch. Solti did not. At least not on the Decca set. I was not too impressed with the recording quality either.
