Due to the design of the crossover, 2-way Maggies are very sensitive to an amplifier's output impedance. A SET amp can have a few ohms output impedance, and it takes only 2.2 ohms to boost the MG1.6's midrange by 2.5dB. This effect is explained in my article below. I too find that the MG1.6 sounds better with a small midrange boost.
