I updated the article with the acoustic measurements (after writing a program to plot them!).Low frequencies aren't absorbed because the wavelengths are too long (50Hz has a wavelength of 20 feet!) Thus, the Maggie design relies on a great deal of bass boost to overcome dipole cancellation. You can see this in the graph.
