Re: Good, Reasonably priced TT/Arm/Cartridge for Stacked Quads. Please help!

Hi,I run ESls and stacked ESLs. I'm afraid I'd recommend that you try to increase your budget another $300 or so if possible. I don't recommend any of the Chinese cheap out of the box set ups available right now. The quality control is not great and your set up is too resolving for this. You can get a used Linn or Oracle MKII for about $700, many times, including a decent arm: Rega300 or Basic and then add a reasonble high output moving coil...cost $1000 total OR for a little more ...ahem... a SOTA with vacuum platter...I've seen some of these go for what I consider cheap lately...these are still state of the art after 20years of existence

A vintage Thorens or Lenco etc would be quite expensive and parts are a true specialty NOS deal. Whereas parts for the tables I've mentioned are still available from the manufacturers and the tables are fully upgradable.

A Rega table would be a another choice..they have good support and are reasonable..perhaps a planar 3 + arm + cartridge you could do for $700. Although I believe , if you're serious, your system deserves more. And you'll end up upgrading again losing in the end.

Bottom line, if you have the software to support the table...a good hardware investment makes sense.

I did'nt know that Wytech made a phono stage?...If it is as good as their amps and line stage then it should be an incredible pre.

Go over to Vinyl for more advice...there are countless solutions. I'm sure you'll get 100 more recommendations there.

Good Luck,

AJ
