The variable is the amplifier's output impedance.
Due to its crossover design, the MG1.6 is extremely sensitive to amplifier output impedance. Non-zero output impedance has the effect of boosting the midrange. The effect can range from smoother sound with 1-2 ohms, to mud with > > 2 ohms.
This effect is explained in my article below.
