measuring output impedance

An approximate measurement may be made with an AC voltmeter and a steady-state sine wave CD.

Play a 100Hz sine wave and measure the voltage across the Maggie (closed-circuit voltage). Then, disconnect the Maggie and measure the voltage at the amplifier output (open-circuit voltage). Compute the output impedance as follows:

(output impedance) = 4 * ((open circuit voltage) / (closed circuit voltage) - 1)

The change in voltage will be small, so a sensitive meter is needed. Also note that some tube amplifiers may misbehave without a load.
